Track notes

‘wave’ captures my rediscovery of making music and its effectiveness as an outlet. It merges old with new and is built on a remix/deconstruction of a recording by my younger self.

'daydream' conveys the sense of being weighed down by negative thoughts - being pulled back and forth emotionally before emerging from chaos into simplicity, clarity and hope.

'hunger' features wonder and beauty being interrupted. Stretched beats and building noise, repetition, frustration and drama crash in over simple melodies culminating in a collapse into nothingness… I may have read too much existentialist philosophy back in the day.

'breathe' captures the otherworldly, unnerving feeling of sleep disturbance... trying to block out the noise/dissonance and focus on breathing in an effort to get back to sleep.

'arcade' is a change in tone... a simple, repetitive but warm ode to nostalgia. Arcades, video games, tape-decks, OTT lush reverb and ice-cream vans combine to signify simultaneous sadness/loss and hope/happiness.

The Thing is one of my favorite movies, so when I saw the title and album art, I knew this immediately needed to join my collection. It certainly didn't disappoint. This album perfectly captures the mood of the film (and likely the book as well, which is still on my to-read list), and the last track especially captures the horrific nature of the transformations.
